Each summer, Berklee welcomes students across the globe to its campus in the heart of Boston. More than 3,000 students travel from over 70 countries to hone their craft, make global connections, and collaborate with other like-minded musicians, actors, and dancers.

Learn the essential building blocks of jazz guitar in Jazz Guitar 101. This course covers fundamental concepts, including chord/scale usage, reharmonization, approach notes, arpeggio substitutions, and how to incorporate melodic tension in rhythm, harmony, and melody. By studying the styles of influential jazz guitarists like Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, Mike Stern, and Pat Martino, you'll understand the jazz language and improve your improvisational skills. With video, MP3 tracks, and written notation, this course helps you quickly integrate these techniques into your playing.

Students age 14+, Students should have at least two years of playing experience and the ability to play various scales and chords on the guitar. Guitar tablature and some chord blocks, in addition to traditional notation, will be used throughout the course.
