The Future Agents in Training - Teen Academy program allows high school students an opportunity to get a comprehensive look into today’s FBI. Generally, each course iteration is a minimum of eight hours but can be a week-long program with blocks of instruction and demonstrations at a local field office. Students are provided with several presentations on topics including terrorism, cyber crime, public corruption, polygraph exams, evidence response, SWAT, and the day-to-day operations of a typical FBI office. Students also learn from special agents, intelligence analysts, language specialists, and professional staff about investigative tactics that include gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and assisting with cases.

Graduating from the FBI Academy's Youth Leadership Program

Over the course of the week, participants focused on core subject matter which included Leadership, Ethics, Values and Choices, Juvenile Crime, Character Matters, Goal Setting, Bullying, Ethical Decision Making, Accountability, Social Media, and Financial Responsibility. These students also traveled to Washington, DC to visit several museums and memorials, including Arlington National Ceremony. The eight-day program culminated with graduation ceremonies. “Where the FBI National Academy Program is the crown jewel of the FBI, the Youth Leadership Program is the crown jewel of the FBI National Academy Associates.

DC, Virginia students train with the FBI during rare summer program

Robert Farris, a rising senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Fairfax County, has never put on an FBI bomb squad uniform before... “We have done everything from hands on work, footprints, classroom work, learning about opioids, we finished up on gangs, MS-13," Farris explained. "It's something I never thought I would see from an outside perspective and as somebody so young."

Wanted by the FBI: High School Students for the 2022 FBI Teen Academy

Upon completion of Teen Academy, high school students will have a greater understanding of the FBI’s mission and how we serve our citizens, community, and nation. During the academy, students will be afforded an opportunity to learn about how evidence is collected at crime scenes; discover how FBI SWAT teams execute arrests; learn about terrorism, civil rights, crimes against children, and cyber programs, as well as job opportunities and requirements. Students will learn from special agents, intelligence analysts, language specialists, and other FBI career tracks about investigative tactics that include gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and assisting with cases.

Future Agents in Training

Highlights for participants include helping to solve a mock bank robbery, observing how to give a polygraph test, and speaking with FBI agents in the field. Last year, youths met with George Piro, the FBI agent profiler who interviewed former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein after his capture in 2003. Other high points are a private tour of the Capitol and a graduation ceremony that includes a meeting with FBI Director Robert Mueller...Coming up with the money for travel and lodging expenses has proven difficult for some students admitted to the program, Godwin said.

Participants will receive hands-on, interactive training on their way to understanding the mission of the FBI, as well as its criminal, cyber threat, terrorism and administrative functions...After completing the academy, students will be more aware of the challenges their communities face, better understand how the FBI serves their region and be prepared to mentor their peers...The FAIT Academy is an outstanding opportunity to learn about the FBI and get an inside look at what we do on a daily basis, not to mention being introduced to potential careers.
