Courses

  • Acting Intensive - A conservatory-style training course that challenges students and offers a strong foundation in the craft of acting. Taught by the School’s world-class faculty, the program emphasizes process and includes scene study, movement, voice, as well as on-camera acting workshops and a monologue audition master class. The four-week class culminates in a public workshop performance for family and friends.
  • Comedy Performance - More and more television shows and movies are populated by well-trained improv and sketch comedians. Study with USC’s distinguished comedy team in improvisation, stand-up comedy, sketch writing, as well as physical comedy and industry-focused master classes. Plus, specialty workshops in acting for commercials and voice over in our state-of-the-art studio. Four weeks of training culminates in a public performance for family and friends.
  • Musical Theatre - Immerse yourself in music, movement (or dance) and play in this intensive, conservatory-style course that celebrates your unique self through musical theatre. During movement classes, you will be exposed to different styles of dance that will enhance your ability to tell a story physically. In vocal performance classes, you will learn how to act the song and feel the music. Meanwhile, acting classes will be devoted to your personal connection to character and text and the basic principles of acting. Please note: Admission to the Musical Theatre course is by audition — please see the website for more information.

What people are saying

What is your opinion of the USC summer high school programs?

I can’t speak for the future physicians program specifically, but I was an RA for the summer programs one year and a TA for two years in the screenwriting program. The programs themselves are top-notch. As an RA, I met a great many kids from many different academic disciplines, and they were almost all smart, driven, and focused. At the same time, they also had a lot of fun. As a TA for screenwriting, I realized that the younger generation of filmmakers is far ahead of where I was when I was in high school. These kids are going places. So if the film program is any indication, you would be smart to attend the summer seminars for physicians.

Summer School: The best way to prepare for college might be spending your summer there

The only thing more grueling than the college audition process... is the start of college, when theatre students are thrust into a new world of demands, responsibilities, and anxieties... Warfield auditioned for 11 college programs and was accepted to every one. His USC audition was less stressful, thanks to his experience over the summer. “When I walked into the room it was like, ‘OK, I’ve worked with you before, I’ve worked at this level before...,’” he says. “You’re so much more confident with yourself knowing you’ve worked at the level they want you to be able to work at... I’d found my best self, and that will follow you into the room and show them you know what you want and where you want to be in the world.”

USC Summer Programs

Perhaps the most crucial reason to consider signing up for one of the many USC Summer Programs is that it simply looks great in the eyes of university admissions officers who care deeply about students’ extracurricular activities and often heavily consider what students do in their free time not only when it comes to admissions, but also when it comes to awarding merit scholarships...One final important advantage that students who attend USC Summer Programs get is that it allows those students to form personal relationships and bonds with current students and faculty. One of the best ways to ensure that a student gets into the school of their dreams is to connect with students admitted to that school and teachers who currently work there.

University of Southern California Summer Programs for High Schoolers

Summer programs allow high school students to specialize in an area of interest without the distraction of other schoolwork or constraints...Summer programs are more interesting to admissions counselors than other types of extracurriculars because fewer students participate in them, and the experiences can be valuable material for an admission essay. This is especially true when the summer program is held at a top school like USC...By attending a program at USC, high school students get to know current USC students and can get the inside scoop about what it’s really like to get in and attend.
